The aim of this business waste section is to try to reduce the overall environmental impact of business waste in Cambridgeshire. The focus is to help businesses:

  • Cut costs through better waste and resource management practices
  • Find a recycling service provider in your local area and get a list of companies with services to suit your needs
  • Keep up to date with changing waste management legislation and how it affects businesses
  • Increase the number of businesses within the county which actively recycle and minimise their waste, and to raise businesses' awareness of the wealth of information, advice and support available to them

I am a local business; what should I do with my waste?

Waste produced by businesses is trade or business waste. As a business you are required by law to dispose of your waste through trade waste collections. Details of local trade waste collection providers can be found in the business waste collection section. There is a charge for these services as it is not covered by business rates payments.

Do you realise there is legislation you have to comply with?

All businesses produce waste and all waste produced by your business or within your workplace is regulated by legislation. The waste legislation section of this site contains further information and some useful links to primary legislation that affects business waste.

It's costing you to landfill!

Businesses in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough send around 1 million tonnes of waste to landfill every year! Each year this becomes more expensive as landfill tax continues to rise from April 1st 2010 landfill tax will be £48 per tonne.

"By recycling as much of your waste as possible businesses can typically save 1% of turnover, or about £1,000 per employee."

You are encouraged to recycle and reduce / reuse your waste to save your business money and minimise the amount which ends up in landfill.
