Campaigns & Education - Community Network

Engaging with the community

The partnership authorities aim to be proactive when it comes to engaging with the community. We recognise the wealth of good work that community groups and social enterprises achieve with a wide range of people, including the disadvantaged and disabled. They often support and complement council services too.

Did you know there are over 20 community groups and social enterprises in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, all working with the public? They often assist people in the local communities while at the same time doing a lot of good to reduce waste and encourage recycling.

How does this relate to me?

You can help by donating your unwanted household items and checking out the items for sale and buying some! You can find good quality products at good prices! Not only does this have social benefits but it is more environmentally friendly too.

The Community Organisations

There are many organisations within Cambridgeshire and Peterborough that offer a variety of services and run numerous projects, including:

  • Community Composting
  • Grocery Reuse (Cambridge Food Bank)
  • Furniture and Electrical reuse and recycling
  • IT Equipment recycling (Compass IT, Peterborough)
  • Real Nappies (Nappy Network and Laundry Service)
  • Recycling other materials, cans, mobile phones, ink cartridges and wood
  • Scrap stores
  • Tools Refurbishment and reuse

To find out more about these groups visit the Community Recycling Network website.

CCORRN: Cambridgeshire Community Re-use and Recycling Network

Cambridgeshire Community Reuse and Recycling Network (otherwise known as CCORRN and pronounced as 'Corn') is a community-led Network set up especially to support the development of community reuse and recycling schemes across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. It is a partnership between the community, public and private sector that started in early 2003.

CCORRN won National runner up at the Green Apple Environmental awards in 2005 for its achievements.

The campaign - Choose2Reuse

CCORRN has also led the way for the establishment of the new 'Choose2 Reuse' campaign and branding. It has been so popular that the Association of Charity Shops has disseminated this information to 500 shops in the East of England.

Next time you are in charity shop you may see it!

Choose2Reuse is a campaign to encourage people to:

  • 1. Increase the amount of good quality material donated and
  • 2. Encourage the use of second-hand goods

Road shows and reuse activities are held every year.
