Campaigns & Education - Master Composter
What is it?
Home composting in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough has been promoted for many years. It is seen as vital in the effort to reduce waste going to landfill.
To encourage people to buy bins and to enthusiastically use them, the Master Composter Programme was set up in 2001. It was one of the first programmes of it is kind and is still going strong today with over 200 Volunteers. The scheme aims to promote effective home and community composting, achieve higher participation rates in all forms of composting and provide high quality environmental education to the community.
If you have environmental concerns and want to do that little bit more, then this could be for you!
Who runs it and how do I become a Master Composter?
Cambridgeshire Council, working in partnership with gardening and composting experts, Garden organic, provide you with free comprehensive training of the course of two days. You then provide 30 hours of volunteer work over the period of a year promoting composting in communities. You are asked to keep a log of your activities. This earns you the title of 'Master Composter'.

Master Composters at work
Activities range from spending an hour with your neighbour to promote home composting, doing a presentations in school to writing an article for your local parish council. There are council and community events throughout the year that you will also have the opportunity to become involved with.
