RECAP Strategy 2008
Joint Municipal Waste Management Strategy for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough 2008 - 2022
"I am pleased to present to you the revised Joint Municipal Waste Management Strategy for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough 2008 - 2022, which recognises the successes of the RECAP Partnership and sets a direction that will enable us to build upon this success and meet new challenges - working together in partnership.
The strategy marks a step change, in line with European and National strategy, to drive further up the waste hierarchy towards the more challenging areas of reuse and ultimately waste prevention. It further highlights the links between sustainable waste management and climate change, stating our commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from our waste management activities.
The strategy acknowledges that our aspirations are made more challenging in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough by accelerated levels of growth - meaning potentially more waste and therefore a greater demand for services. This is within the context of limited resources and a requirement to continuously make further savings.
It ultimately sets a strong case for the need for continued and closer joint working, not just within the partnership, but also across administrative boundaries, with the private and third sector and with local communities themselves."
Cllr Peter Murphy
Chair of RECAP
