Material Recovery Facility

Four authorities send the recyclable materials collected from the kerbside to a Material Recovery Facility (MRF) - Cambridge City, Peterborough, Huntingdonshire and Fenland District. A Material Recovery Facility is used when local authorities collect recyclables mixed together in a wheeled bin, to sort the recyclables into material types. Materials are sorted by hand and by machine, packed into bales and sent to reprocessors, where it is then made into new products.

The MRF in Peterborough has a learning centre and offers a tour of the facility. If you would like to find out more, contact Peterborough Direct on 01733 747474.
