Recycling in Cambridgeshire & Peterborough

RECAP Events

07/08/2009 - Cambridgeshire - Full of Food Lovers

The Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Waste Partnership will be creating a food loving frenzy across the county this month.

Council officers and comedy street performers will be spreading a love food hate waste message at the following events:

  • Cambourne Fete, High Street, Great Cambourne on Saturday 15 August, 12- 4 pm
  • Greener Living Fair, West End Park, March on Saturday 15 August, 1- 5 pm
  • Tomato Festival, Wimpole Hall, Arrington on Sunday 16th August, 10.30 am- 5 pm

By appreciating our food rather than letting it go to waste we can save up to £50 a month and make a significant difference to our environment by reducing the amount of food that ends up in landfill.  We currently throw more food away in our household bins than anything else.

At the events residents will be presented with handy giveaways and many easy tips to help them plan their meals, store food to keep it fresher for longer, and use up leftovers. Those who sign up to be Food Lovers and waste less food will be entered into a draw to win an eco-prize which will help them manage their food even better. And even the residents who are experts in reducing food waste are invited to join us at the events to share their food saving tips with others.

Cllr Peter Murphy from the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Waste Partnership said: “Cambridgeshire is part of the ‘bread basket of England’ so we know just how much care and energy goes into growing and producing our food. I encourage everyone to become a Food Lover and love their food too much to see it go to waste.”

The events being held are in support of the national Love Food Hate Waste campaign.  For useful advice as well as simple tools to help prevent food going to waste, such as a portion calculator and rescue recipes, visit the campaign’s website.
