30/05/2007 - Calling all secondary schools for the big SmartLIFE Sculpture Challenge!
Secondary schools are being challenged to design and build the most fantastic 'Sustainable Living Sculpture' from recycled materials, with the winning design transformed into a full scale model for a new waste education centre.
On average, each person in the UK throws away seven times his or her body weight (about 500kg) in rubbish every year! We need to find ways to reduce the waste we generate, at work, at home and at play.
We challenge schools to design and build a sculpture illustrating the theme of ‘Sustainable Living’ using only recycled material. The sculpture can be any shape or size and made out of any materials as long as it is made from recycled materials.
The winning design will be scaled up and made into a full size sculpture taking pride of place at the new Donarbon Education Centre, to be built at their Waterbeach site on the A10.
Donarbon will donate £1000 to the winning school with the winning team taking part in an interview at the studios of Star Radio, before taking a 4x4 trip around the Donarbon Waste site. All participating schools will receive a pack of goodies!
Each team will need to take a photo of its design and send it into SmartLIFE by the 19th November 2007.
All designs will be displayed on the Star radio website www.star107.co.uk where listeners will be encouraged to vote for their favourite entry. The winner will be announced in December at a special open day held at the SmartLIFE centre on Kings Hedges Road for the finalists.
Please send all entries along with a brief description of what the school would like to spend the winning prize of £1000 on to SmartLIFE, ET1033, Castle Court, Shire Hall, Cambridge, CB3 0AP, or email louise.dailly@cambridgeshire.gov.uk
