Love Food Hate Waste

We are throwing away £12 Billion of food every year in the UK

What's going on?

Community Action Scheme

Grants of between £100 and £500 are available to voluntary and community groups in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. The grant can be used to pay for an event or activity which encourages people to reduce their food waste.

Your activity or event must involve at least 12 people and take place by the end of January 2011. Please note that the funding will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

  • See the fund's requirements >

    a. Use of Grant – We confirm that the grant, if offered, will be used for the purpose as detailed in the grant offer letter.

    b. Timescale – We confirm that we will spend the grant by 28 January 2011.

    c. Training – We understand that a requirement of the grant is that we will attend an informal workshop which will provide us with support that RECAP can offer us with our grant funded project (dates and venues for workshops are displayed on www.cambscf.org.uk).

    d. End of Programme event – We understand there is an expectation for participants to attend an end of programme event in Feb 2011 (exact date tba) which will bring together all that have been funded as part of the Love Food Hate Waste Community Action Scheme. The event will share information, celebrate successes and enable groups that have been funded to meet each other and members of the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Waste Partnership.

    e. Insurance – We confirm that we have appropriate insurance to cover the activity we will use the grant funding for.

    f. Retrospective funding – We confirm that we understand the grant money CANNOT be used to cover costs incurred before an offer is made.

    g. CRB Checks We confirm that we have undertaken and will continue to undertake the necessary thorough recruitment checks (using the disclosure service of the CRB) for those staff and volunteers whose roles involve them in regular contact with children and vulnerable adults.

    h. Child Protection and Vulnerable Adults Policies We confirm that if we work with children and young people up to 18y, or vulnerable adults as defined in ‘No Secrets’ the Government’s guidance on adult abuse that we operate appropriate Child Protection and Vulnerable Adults Policies.

    i. Equal Opportunities Policy – We confirm we operate an Equal Opportunities Policy.

    j. Project Feedback Material – We agree to provide feedback material (in an electronic format), for example, photographs or a report from the people involved by email. This material may be used by CCF and RECAP to illustrate the community projects they have funded and may be used in material we share with other grants recipients – by email newsletter, or on facebook, for example. For any pictures including children we will have sought appropriate parental consent.

    k. Banking Grant Cheque – We understand that if we receive a grant, the cheque must be banked within one month of the issue date. Otherwise the cheque will be cancelled and the grant withdrawn.

    l. Project Monitoring Forms – We agree to complete and return the grant monitoring form by the specified date. CCF will send the monitoring form and advise of the date for return with any grant offered. We note that satisfactory completion of a monitoring form is a prerequisite for any future grant application to Cambridgeshire Community Foundation.

    m. Significant Changes – We agree to advise the Foundation immediately if there are significant changes affecting the project or organisation that is being funded; including a starting delay of more than 1 months, duplicate funding, changes to the financial stability of the organisation, changes to the project as it develops or any under spend. Approval must be obtained from Cambridgeshire Community Foundation to use the grant for any other purpose than that stated.

    n. Dissolution – We confirm that if the organisation is wound up, any remaining grant funding will be returned to Cambridgeshire Community Foundation within 3 months.

    o. Acknowledgement of Grant – We will acknowledge any grant awarded in our Annual Report/minutes of AGM, website and all other appropriate printed material. Suggested wording is set out below.

'We acknowledge the grant we have received from the Love Food Hate Waste Community Action Scheme which has contributed towards the cost of this project.'

    p. CCF Visit – We understand that Cambridgeshire Community Foundation may send a representative to visit the project to see how grant money is being spent. We agree to cooperate by arranging any such visit, providing due notice is given.

    q. Feedback on CCF – We agree to complete (either electronically or on hardcopy) a form which we will be sent following this application process giving our views on the work of CCF and how our application has been handled.

    r. Failure to Adhere to the Terms and Conditions – We understand that if we fail to adhere to the terms and conditions which are set out here and in the grant offer letter, we will be required to return the grant money in full to Cambridgeshire Community Foundation.

Love Food Hate Waste in your workplace

RECAP Team is visiting businesses in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, to speak to employees about ways to prevent food waste. We can deliver a presentation or just come and engage in conversations with people in their lunchtime in the canteen or a break out space. We bring with us little kitchen utensils and recipe cards that can make the life in the kitchen easier and help prevent waste.

If you wish our team to visit your workplace, get in touch to arrange the details of the event.

Top tips

For many top tips to reduce the amount of food that gets thrown away, visit Love Food Hate Waste website.

See below our examples of tips to help you reduce food waste from your household.

Date labels

Use By

Food can be eaten or frozen right up to the end of this date. Follow storage instructions on packs. 'Use by' dates are usually found on chilled products such as meat, soft cheeses and dairy-based desserts.

Best Before

These dates refer to quality rather than food safety. Foods with a 'best before' date should be safe to eat after the 'best before' date, but they may no longer be at their best. One exception is eggs - never eat eggs after the 'best before' date. 'Best before' dates are usually found on items with long shelf lives such as frozen, tinned or dried foods, and pre-packed fruit and vegetables

Display Until and Sell By

You can ignore these dates as they are for shop staff not for shoppers!
