Local author will judge competition entries for the Recyclables Summer Challenge 2019

19 August 2019

Pippa Goodhart, local author of children's bestseller book, You Choose, will be one of five judges for the Recyclables Summer Challenge 2019, a competition for children that celebrates the power of imagination and encourages Cambridgeshire residents to reduce and recycle as much as they can.

To take part in the Recyclables Summer Challenge - Space for Change, children must use their imagination to create a story of how a drinks can, jam jar, plastic bottle or magazine can be recycled and transformed into something new.

Pippa Goodhart will join the judging panel alongside animator Mark Pirrie, director of marketing and video production agency Breadcrumb Media and representatives from the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Waste Partnership (RECAP) and Amey. The judges will review the children's entries and select the winners.

The winning story will be made into an animated film by Breadcrumb Media and its author will be invited to take their whole class for an Animation Workshop and Activity Day at Amey's Waste Management Park in Waterbeach.

The winner will also get a framed picture of the character they created. The second prize will be for the class that gets the most students entering and the class will be invited to an interactive Recycling Activity Day at Amey's Waste Management Park in Waterbeach.

Pippa Goodhart said: "This competition is a wonderful opportunity for visually creative children. Are we going to discover film makers and animators of the future? The competition's recycling subject couldn't be more important or relevant to children. Altogether it's going to be a treat for me to see and be part of the judging of what they create. I very much hope I can meet the winners and share in their workshop. Exciting!"

Organised by the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Waste Partnership (RECAP) and supported by Amey to celebrate RECAP's 20th anniversary, the Recyclables Summer Challenge is open to all Cambridgeshire children who have just finished Years 3, 4 and 5. Children have until 20 September 2019 to enter the competition. More details about the competition, hints and tips are available on the Recyclables Summer Challenge page.
